About the club

Denmark’s oldest Rugby Club – since 1950

The history of the club stretches back to the years after the Second World War. In 1948, a group of young Danes who had fought in the war under the British flag founded the Ex-Army Rugby Club.

The sport of rugby spread to a group of young men from Amager who, on 31 March 1950, agreed to found an ordinary sports association, and thus Denmark’s first organized rugby club. Several possible names for the new association were in play, so they had to draw lots. Out of a hat came Rugbyklubben Speed, as the club has been called ever since.

Today, Speed Rugby Club is one of the most dominated clubs in the country.
Over the years, our youth, men’s and women’s teams have won a number of medals.
At the same time, the club has traveled the world for tournaments and matches abroad.

The sporting ambitions are high, but that is far from the most important characteristic of our club. Speed Rugby Club is a place where people of all nationalities and social backgrounds have met and formed deep friendships for more than 70 years. A place where we have helped each other, learned from each other’s differences and created lifelong memories together.

Speed Rugby Club has only ever existed and can only continue to exist as long as the club has many volunteers who put hours and energy into our club. We lift together to create results, memories and friendships.

We hope you want to be a part of our long, traditional history.
