Rugbyklubben Speed vs. Aarhus Rugby Klub 20/10-2024, 57-13 (31-3)

Presentation:

With just two games left in the season, there was no room to stumble as the men’s team headed off to Aarhus on Saturday, where Aarhus Rugby Klub was waiting. Aarhus lacked front rows, so prior to the match we had decided that we would play uncontested scrums, knowing that it would remove the opportunity to use the scrum as a weapon and change the pace of the match to a faster one. And it has to be said that it did. Because by saving the time that regular scrums usually take, there was far more ball play in this match. At the same time, Aarhus’ backs were both alert and dangerous when they had the ball in their hands, which meant that our backs had to defend many attacks directly from scrums during the match. However, the match started out with Speed  dominating the the game for the first five minutes, where we put many great phases together with hard runs from our forwards. However, Speed didn’t manage to break through Aarhus’ defense, and then the momentum turned for a period. It was then Aarhus who got on the scoreboard first with a penalty to make it 3-0 to the home team. However, Speed quickly responded through wing Mads Jørgensen and took a 3-5 lead. Then it was scrumhalf Victor Hounou running trough the defensive line to put Speed 3-10 up. Shortly after, big brother Gerard Hounou scored, while Joakim Calmar converted for 3-17. Speed delivered two more scores in the first half by Joachim Calmar and Malte Madsen to make it 3-31 at halftime. After the break, it was Aarhus who got off to the best start and much of the play took place down Speed’s half of the pitch. However, Speed turned the momentum and a great breakthrough by our big second row Jonno Stelder, which was converted by Joakim Calmar, put Speed ahead 3-38. Then it was Aarhus who deservedly capitalized on their good start to the second half, scoring and converting a try to make it 10-38. Then Jeppe Holm scored from a pick and go and we added two more tries before the referee whistled the game off at the final score of 10-57. After the match, Speed named Malte Madsen player of the match, while Aarhus chose Jonno Stelder as the best of the field. Speed could not have asked for a better starting point before the team’s final and decisive match away against Frederiksberg Rugby Klub. Here the possibility of gold is present, which will be the first time since 2014. It requires a win by more than 6 points. So come out and support the boys, who need all the support they can get in this important match. It takes place at Frederiksbergs kunstofbane at Jens Jessens Vej at 14.00 on Saturday, October 26.
