Tournament match against CSR/Nanok
Time for the second tournament match of the year, or the Battle of Amager. After a convincing 77-7 win over Exiles in the first round, it was time for the team to take on their rivals from Christianshavn, who had beaten Hundested in their first game. With injuries to some of our experienced players, it was exciting to see what the team could deliver.
The weather changed just before the start of the match, and after a dry spring, the pitch was well watered in the first half. The slippery ball initially gave both teams some challenges, but they quickly got to grips with it and it was a very watchable match.
In the first half, Speed put strong pressure on CSR/Nanok, moving the ball around well and keeping CSR/Nanok firmly in their half. However, it must be said that the visitors never gave up, they fought well throughout the half. With 3 tries and 1 penalty, Speed went into the break with a 22-0 lead.
The second half started like the first, Speed again kept CSR/Nanok away from their own half. Defense was often turned into attack when the ball was won. CSR/Nanok fought well for the first 20 minutes, but then it was as if they were worn down and could no longer withstand the pressure from Speed. In the second half they scored 7 tries and the match ended with a 65-0 win for Speed.
The speed team seemed homogeneous and played a good coherent and watchable match. As a spectator, you didn’t feel that we were missing 3-4 injured national team players. It was nice to see that even throw-ins were used for breakthroughs and attacks, and that we didn’t just run phase after phase, but tried to keep the ball in play and seek the opportunities it gives. We have many players with good hands and it’s great to see that the team dares to play the ball around even if the weather is bad.
